The 10th SFLEP National Foreign Language Teaching Contest was held successfully in GDUT on June 16, 2019. The contest was sponsored by the College English Teaching Steering Committee of Guangdong Province (CETSCG) and Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press, and organized by GDUT. Prof. Zhang Yun, vice president of GDUT, Prof. Liu Jianda, Chairman of CETSCG, vice president of GDUFS and general supervisor of the Contest, and Huang Wei, vice president of SFLEP, the host of this contest and the national contest, attended the meeting. 18 judges, 21 contestants, teachers and staff from lots of universities including SYSU, SCUT, GDUFS, GDUT and SZU, as well as media friends of Guangdong News Channel and TVS participated in the event. The 10th SFLEP National Foreign Language Teaching Contest (Guangdong District) [photo] 61 English teachers selected from 45 undergraduate colleges and universities in Guangdong in the preliminary contest participated in the semi-final of the two class groups: the comprehensive class group and the viewing, listening & speaking class group. 21 contestants standing out from the semi-final reached the final. The final was also held in the same two groups, each comprised of two parts: speaking lesson and answering questions from the judges. After brilliant and fierce competition, Fan Yuan from Lingnan Normal University and Li Chao from Shenzhen Technology University won the grand prize of the comprehensive class group and the viewing, listening & speaking class group respectively. The two contestants will represent Guangdong Province to participate in the national finals to be held in Shanghai in November this year. Zhang Yun, vice president of GDUT, extended his gratitude to CETSCG, SFLEP, the judges and other experts, the teachers who organized the contest, and congratulated the teachers who have achieved excellent results. He believed that young teachers are the future of the school. He hoped that the skills of teaching exhibited in the contest can benefit English teaching and lots of students. Professor Zhang Yun was speaking Liu Jianda, vice president of GDUFS, acknowledged the role of the contest in promoting teaching and hopes that teachers break the confines of traditional teaching methodology and rack their brains to flip and innovate class. Professor Liu Jianda was speaking Huang Wei, vice president of SFLEP, made a concluding speech on behalf of the National Organizing Committee and sponsors of the contest. He fully affirmed the organizational work of GDUT and the excellent performance of the contestants, thanked all the people and units who had made contributions to the contest in the past 10 years. At the same time, he traced back the history of the SFLEP, and looked forward to internationalization based on Guangdong's local characteristics.
