Educational Objectives: The major of Japanese is aimed at cultivating innovative, professional, and interdisciplinary talents who can satisfy the needs of social and economic development. The graduates in this major should be equipped with systematic knowledge of Japanese language, literature and culture, a proficient mastery of Japanese in the aspects of listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation. Furthermore, they should also be equipped with relevant knowledge in the field of humanities and social sciences together with natural sciences, and basic methods of scientific research. They should be qualified for jobs in translation and interpreting between Chinese and Japanese, teaching, research, management, foreign affairs and foreign trade.

Characteristics: The major intends to cultivate high-quality innovative and application-oriented talents with an emphasis on Japanese language and a combination of business and commerce. With advanced educational ideas, this major will lay a solid foundation in Japanese learning; improve humanistic spirit and cultural qualities, self-learning abilities and capabilities to apply what they learn in practice, to help them understand Japanese corporate culture and equip them with the mind and foundation to communicate among different culture.

Educational Model: There is an integration of in-class teaching and out-of-class innovation in our educational model. We make use of off-campus practice bases and teaching facilities like network platform for foreign language teaching, Japanese Culture Experience Room, and language lab to cultivate high-caliber professional talents. Core Courses: Elementary Japanese, Advanced Japanese, Oral Japanese, Japanese Listening and Speaking ,Extensive Reading in Japanese, Japanese Writing, Elementary Translation, Interpreting in Japanese, Advanced Audio-visual Course in Japanese, etc.

Employment: Coupled with international vision and innovative consciousness, they can get employed by government organs, foreign affairs institutions, foreign trade companies, foreign enterprises, foreign financial agencies, business management companies, translation firms, news agencies and publishing houses, travel agencies, hotels, etc. in such jobs as business management, business translation and business negotiation or in such roles as business secretary, foreign business agent, public relation worker and tour guide. They can also work in schools or colleges as teachers or researchers. Some students choose to further study for their master’s degree or doctor's degree.
